Vassar College Instructional Visualization - Geophysics and Tectonics

Vassar Geophysics

Two upper level courses in the Geology program at Vassar involve the study of geophysics. In Geology 240, Global Tectonics and Geophysics, we study plate tectonics and earth structure using gravity, heat flow, and earthquake seismology. In Geology 340, Advanced Geophysics, we will be surveying an 18th century African burial ground using electrical resistivity, magnetics, and ground penetrating radar. Most of the spatial data are compiled and analyzed in an ArcView Geographic Information System database.
